Volunteer with DCSCP

Our cadre is made up of wide variety of citizens. Most of us are retired and do not come from a law enforcement background. A Citizen Patrol Officer must be able to walk short distances, remaining standing in place for indeterminate times, and generally be in good health. A very clean driving record and current, valid Nevada Class C driver’s license is an absolute must. A high degree of integrity, honesty and strong sense of team is also required.

We work out of the Sheriff’s Main Office at 1038 Buckeye Road in Minden, Nevada. We currently staff two shifts running from 8:00 AM to 12 noon and 1 PM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. We also staff a number of special events throughout the county all year long, both inside and out-of-doors.  After successful completion of our field training program, we will team you up with a partner, supply you with a uniform and other associated equipment. We will try very hard to work around most people’s schedules. Not all applicants are accepted nor does successful completion of our training program guarantee a place in Douglas County Sheriff’s Citizen Patrol.

Report Writers
Under the supervision of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Citizen Patrol Report Writers are made up of ten all-volunteer, uniformed citizens who staff our office at 1038 Buckeye Road in Minden, Nevada. We work 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  We take reports in person and over the phone from our fellow Douglas County citizens requesting our field services and desiring to file lost and found property reports. There are occasions whereby we can conduct the vehicle identification number verification in our parking lot.  Report Writers are required have better-than-average organizational, verbal and written communications skills. The ability to handle multiple tasks at one time is helpful as is some degree of mastery of the Microsoft Word computer program. A strong willingness to learn new concepts and help the general public is paramount to success.

After successful of our comprehensive training program, we will assign to you your own shift. Again, we try very hard to work around most people’s schedules. Not all applicants are accepted nor does successful completion of our training program guarantee a place in Douglas County Sheriff’s Citizen Patrol as a Report Writer.
